The fifth-century B.C. statue shown here (compare with photos of Eleusis’s Kallichoron Well and the caves in Eleusis), designated simply as the “fleeing maiden,” was once part of the Telesterion’s decoration. Now in the Eleusis Museum, it may represent Persephone or one of Demeter’s initiates.
