Hands to her face in grief, this small ceramic figurine, found buried with a mummy, appears to mourn the loss of a loved one. Other mummies were buried with personal possessions, such as earrings, necklaces, amulets and gold coins. The lavish burial goods and the elaborate ornamentation of the mummies suggest that Roman-period Bahariya was extremely prosperous—from trade in wine, according to author Zahi Hawass.
