Describing the ruins of the Temple of Jupiter (shown here, compare with photo of lions’ head) in 1839, the British artist David Roberts wrote: “The beauty of its form, the exquisite richness of its ornamentation and the vast magnitude of its dimensions are altogether unparalleled.” Today only a single set of six Corinthian columns and some fragments of entablature remain from the temple’s once-grand colonnade.
