Since 1996 a team of Czech archaeologists has been excavating in the southwestern sector (upper right in the photo) of the Abusir necropolis—some distance from the famous 5th Dynasty (2465‒2323 B.C.) burial complexes of the vizier Ptahshepses and the pharaohs Sahure, Neferirkare and Niuserre.
