The ancient galleries of Yazilikaya, two miles northeast of Bogûazko¬y, contain a magnificent outdoor temple dedicated to the pantheon of Hittite gods. Concealed in the mountain recesses, the complex of galleries are filled with 13th century B.C. reliefs carved from natural rock faces. The subjects depicted are Hittite gods and the King who ordered the sanctuary, TudhÉaliya IV. Shown here is a view of Yazilikaya from the northeast. At the foot of the prominent rock sanctuary are the remains of the walls of a temple.
