A stone basin from Tell Beit Mirsim lies tipped on its side. When the olive press was in use, a stack of pulp-filled baskets would have rested above the central opening of this basin. After pressure was applied to the stack, oil would have dripped into the central hole or would have been caught in the gutter of the rim.
