A leaf from the Book of Ben Sira (Ecclesiasticus). Purchased from Egypt in 1896 by Mrs. Agnes Lewis and Mrs. Margaret Gibson, adventurous Scottish twin sisters, this manuscript was first identified by Solomon Schechter. For Schechter it was the initial link in the chain that led him to the Genizah of the thousand-year-old Ben Ezra synagogue in Cairo.
