Loaves of bread, each marked with a cross, and two fish commemorate the miracle of Jesus’ feeding more than 5,000 people with five loaves and the two fish. The discovery of this mosaic fragment at the end of the last century confirmed long standing traditions and pilgrims’ accounts that this was the site of an ancient church commemorating the miracle of the loaves and fishes.
