Autumn, as depicted in the zodiac, wears a garland of figs, leaves, and pomegranate fruits and blossoms. The bounty of her season is also displayed in the bunch of grapes she holds and the olive twig next to her hand. To the right of her head is a Hebrew inscription, tkufat tishrei, “season of the Hebrew month of tishrei,” meaning season of autumn. Autumn and three other female busts representing spring, summer and winter occupy the four spandrels between the zodiac’s square frame and its outer circle. They are arranged counterclockwise beginning with Spring in the upper left corner, each season positioned next to her months, represented by the appropriate zodiac figures.
