Lush planted fields meet the shore of the Sea of Galilee. At upper left stands the Yigal Allon Museum—a tall white building at the water’s edge—where the Galilee Boat is now housed. When this photo was taken, the boat still lay on shore under a tarpaulin, the white speck at center, 550 yards to the right of the museum.

Throughout the complex excavation and transportation of the boat, the two nearby agricultural communities, Kibbutz Ginnosar and Moshav Migdal, enthusiastically volunteered both workers and equipment.
