A delicate extraction. Half swallowed by a pit and crowded against a balk (the side of an excavation square), volunteer Gwen Latta of Boston College excavates a 12th-century B.C. Philistine bowl at Tel Miqne-Ekron. She uses a dental pick to free the bowl in the final moments of the task.
