No engineered obsolescence here. Built to bring the water of Gihon Spring into Jerusalem in anticipation of a siege in 701 B.C.E. by King Sennacherib of Assyria, Hezekiah’s tunnel still functions, as visitors wade through the sometimes hip-deep water of its narrow, 1,748-foot-long passage.
