Huge, tumbled building blocks lie in a heap at the base of the southwestern corner of the Herodian Temple Mount (for a sense of scale, note the people near the far right corner of the wall). The blocks originally stood atop the wall but were toppled by the Romans during their sack of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. Archaeologist Ronny Reich has been uncovering the finely paved Herodian street along the western side of the Temple Mount, one of several projects currently in full swing throughout Israel, as described in the accompanying article.
