Sabotage. Several Egyptian statues found across the Hazor site had been deliberately mutilated. Only the lower torso remains of the pharaonic statue shown above. From this detail, however, the entire statue may be reconstructed.

That the destroyers were willing to deface Canaanite and Egyptian statues suggests that they belonged to a different ethnic group. Authors Amnon Ben-Tor and Maria Teresa Rubiato propose the Israelites as the leading candidate.
