This drawing is an artist’s reconstruction of how Herod’s Temple Mount looked in its time of glory, shown from the southwest. His sacred precinct was the largest in all of classical antiquity; the famed Parthenon, for example, is a mere fifth the size of the Temple Mount. At center in the drawing is a conjectured view of the Temple. But can we deduce just where this holy structure stood?
