What started as an emergency exit for the al-Marawani Mosque has turned into a broad, double-arched entranceway approached by several spacious landings of steps. Work on the entranceway began last year, when tons of earth were carted away from the Temple Mount and dumped into the nearby Kidron Valley. The action caused an outcry, but the work resumed this past spring and continued through the summer.
