A 3-inch-high statuette, discovered just north of Jerusalem’s Old City, provides further evidence of Late Bronze Age settlement. A fine example of Egyptian craftsmanship from the New Kingdom period (16th–11th centuries B.C.), the statuette is one of several artifacts that may have been part of a 13th-century Egyptian temple located on the road leading north from ancient Jerusalem. Without this and a few other recently identified finds, we would have no archaeological inkling of an Egyptian presence in Jerusalem.
