A dedicatory inscription, found in Caesarea in 1961, is carved in honor of the Roman Emperor Tiberius. It also bears the name of Pontius Pilate, governor of Judea from 26 to 37 C.E. Pilate is mentioned by Josephus, Philo and others, and coins bearing his name have also been found.
