On the western slopes of the Golan stand the remains of the synagogue of Deir Aziz. The building measures 60 feet long by 37 feet wide, with walls still standing up to 9 feet high in some places. The main entrance was through the eastern wall. Large basalt slabs were carefully placed to pave the floor, and three-stepped stone benches run along every wall, making it a monumental structure but with fairly simple architecture.
