The Babylonian Talmud is rabbinic interpretation of Jewish law and lore written in Hebrew and Aramaic, after being transmitted orally for centuries. This Oral Law, as it is still known, was not accessible to Jews of the western diaspora, whose languages were Greek and Latin.
