REINFORCING THE PALACE. The Stepped Stone Structure sits on the eastern slope of the City of David. The structures near the bottom of the Stepped Stone Structure are later Israelite houses built centuries after the Stepped Stone Structure was constructed. What the author believes to be David’s palace (the Large Stone Structure) was built on the ridge above the Stepped Stone Structure; this photograph was taken before the Large Stone Structure (David’s Palace) was excavated by Eilat Mazar.
