SUBMERGED CHURCH. A Byzantine church was built right next to the Hellenistic Ptolemaion. Like many structures at Limyra, this structure is now below groundwater level. From a bird’s eye view, the basilical plan of the church, divided into a central hall and two side aisles, is visible.

Limyra had two other Byzantine churches, the most notable being its Episcopal Church (serving as the seat of a bishop). It was built in the late fifth or sixth century C.E.
