WEIGHTY EVIDENCE. Situated on the Sea of Galilee, el-Araj was an ideal place for fishing. Archaeologists have found numerous lead weights (shown here)—used on fishing nets—and even a chalk mold for making these weights dating to the Byzantine period. In 2019, Yehoshua Dray made a replica weight from the original mold. He is also the one who identified the stone as a mold.
