DRINKING GAMES. At et-Tell, archaeologists found a black-figure potsherd that depicts the Greek game kottabos. Participants in this game reclined on couches and threw wine at a plate that had been placed on a stand—with the goal of knocking the plate off. Painted in the red-figure style, an Athenian plate from the fifth century B.C.E. shows a man reclining on a couch and using a kylix to play the game.
