Terra-cotta figurines, just a few inches tall, are especially common in Iron Age Judah, where they are often found within the remains of houses. These pillar figurines depicting women with prominent breasts probably represent one of the Canaanite goddesses, Asherah or Astarte, and were likely associated with rituals involving fertility or a safe pregnancy.
