All are welcome. The fountain in the forecourt of the Sardis synagogue is listed in an inscription as one of the city’s public fountains, which anyone was welcome to use. Jews and gentiles lived side by side in many Mediterranean cities (like Ostia and Sardis), and the increase in converts in the early centuries C.E. may simply be attributed to the close contact between both groups.
